Bernard

After drawing the original Bernard sketch, I liked his story so much that I drew another, better-painted version of him.

Bernard is the hungry demon. He is sent out to hunt down the souls that lost themselves on the pathway to hell. When he finds a Lost Soul he devours it then races out of oblivion and back to hell, taking the souls he's eaten with him.

He delivers a soul, and the personal Hell of that being rises up around it. For some the fire and brimstone does exist, but Heaven and Hell are very personal things and vary from person to person. Dragging souls out of the oblivion of being lost is an important mission. Bernard is the one who enables souls that would otherwise be trapped in nothingness for eternity the chance to face the Hell they have created for themselves. In giving them that chance to suffer themselves he gives them a chance to find their redemption.

This picture is a soul delivery. I came up with the sketch after wondering about how one would go about delivering something that had been eaten. Since there's only two ways I could think of for this to happen, I figured I draw the much less discusting one xD

This was finished off and on for a week or so, whenever I was feeling angsty about my homework pile and needed to escape it. The story is just something I thought up while working on it.
